Lausanne (Switzerland): As the International Olympic Committee (IOC) prepares for its presidential election in March 2025, the Ethics Commission has released guidelines regarding candidate presentations and voting procedures. These were approved by the IOC Executive Board during a meeting on Tuesday.
Candidates will present their platforms to IOC Members on January 30, 2025, in a private session, adhering to the order determined by a drawing of lots on November 26. Following the presentations, there will be media interactions.
The voting will occur at the 144th IOC Session in Greece from March 18 to 21, 2025, also in private. The election will proceed in rounds until a candidate secures an absolute majority. In each round, the candidate with the fewest votes will be eliminated.
The name of the newly elected IOC President will be announced live after the final voting round concludes. The new president will officially take office on June 24, 2025, succeeding current President Thomas Bach, who will remain in his position until then.
Seven candidates are vying for the presidency: HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, David Lappartient, Johan Eliasch, Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr, Kirsty Coventry, Lord Sebastian Coe, and Morinari Watanabe.
