IPL 2025 Final: Virat Kohli, Bengaluru crowned IPL champions after 18 years

Ahmedabad: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has won its first title in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 runs in the final played on Tuesday. With this, IPL got its 8th champion in the 18th season.

Chasing a target of 191 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, PBKS could only score 184 runs. Virat Kohli scored 43 runs off 35 balls for Bangalore. Jitesh batted fast and scored 24 runs off 10 balls at a strike rate of 240. Krunal Pandya took 2 wickets for 17 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also took 2 wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson took 3-3 wickets from Punjab.

RCB team has become the eighth champion in IPL history. Before this, Chennai Super Kings (5 times), Mumbai Indians (5 times), Kolkata Knight Riders (3 times), Rajasthan Royals (1 time), Deccan Chargers (1 time), Sunrisers Hyderabad (1 time) and Gujarat Giants (1 time) have become champions

Apart from him, no batsman could cross the 30-run mark. However, Jitesh batted fast and scored 24 runs in 10 balls at a strike rate of 240. For Punjab, Kyle Jamieson took 3 wickets and Arshdeep took 3 wickets. Arshdeep got all three wickets in the last over.

Both these teams, playing the 18th season of IPL, are waiting for their first title. RCB is playing its first final under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar. On the other hand, Punjab has also reached the title match for the first time under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.

The final of the 18th season of IPL is being played between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Punjab won the toss and chose to bowl at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With both teams hoping to win their maiden title in the league, the team managements decided to go in with the tried and trusted and remain unchanged for the final. RCB have decided to go ahead without Tim David, who had missed their last two matches with an injury.

On the biggest occasion for the franchise, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer said his players are in a good mindset and will play it like a final.

“I want to give positive signs to my mind and body. I feel it’s an amazing day, here at the moment. Crowd here is electrifying, just want to cherish it. Boys in a brilliant mindset,” he said at the toss.

Asked what they discussed in the pre-match meeting, Iyer said, “All we talked about in the meeting was about how keeping calm gives the best results. That’s been the message throughout. We hope to embrace the occasion. I’m absolutely fine. We’re gonna play it like a final. Have envisioned lifting the trophy.”

RCB skipper Rajat Patidar said they would have also liked to bowl first on this wicket.

“We also wanted to bowl. Surface looks hard. Will try to put on a good total. Till now we’ve played well, it’s just another game for us. We’ll give it our best.

“It’s a big stage but it’s just another away game for us. Everyone’s played well till now, will try to do the same now. Same team. Looks a good pitch, flat, mix of red and black soil. Should be good to bat,” said Patidar.

The match will be played on pitch number six which is a 25% black soil and 75% red soil surface. Six games out of eight played on it have been won by teams batting first. The boundary is 64m on either side square and a 72m hit down the ground.
