New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has announced major modifications to the Tatkal ticket booking system aimed at curbing misuse and improving access for ordinary passengers.
According to the statement issued y the Ministry of Railways starting f4om July 1, 2025, passengers will need Aadhaar authentication to book Tatkal tickets via the IRCTC website or app.
From July 15, Aadhaar-based OTP verification will also become mandatory for these online bookings. Similarly, for bookings through PRS counters or authorized agents, an OTP sent to the user’s registered mobile number will be required from July 15.
The notice also reads to reduce agent monopoly, authorized railway agents will be barred from booking Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of opening — between 10:00 am to 10:30 am for AC classes and 11:00 am to 11:30 am for non-AC classes.
The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and IRCTC have been instructed to implement these changes promptly, with all zonal railways notified accordingly.
