Jerusalem: The Israeli military announced on Saturday that it carried out airstrikes on border crossings between Lebanon and Syria, accusing Hezbollah of using these routes to smuggle weapons into Lebanon.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) asserted that these crossings were exploited by Hezbollah for illegal arms transfers, labeling such actions as a “clear violation” of the ceasefire agreement established between Israel and Lebanon on November 27, 2024, reported Xinhua news agency.

The IDF pledged to “continue taking action to neutralize threats to Israel” and to stop Hezbollah, which they define as a “terrorist organization,” from “rebuilding its military capabilities.”

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a conflict monitoring group based in Britain, the Israeli strikes targeted locations in Syria’s Qalamoun region near the Lebanese border, which are historically known for Hezbollah’s arms transfers from Syria to Lebanon.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or damage, and neither Syrian nor Lebanese officials, nor Hezbollah, have provided immediate comments on the situation.

Earlier this month, the Israeli military also executed airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in eastern and southern Lebanon. An Israeli aircraft reportedly hit an underground tunnel used by Hezbollah for arms transfers in the Bekaa Valley region of eastern Lebanon, which had been previously targeted. Additionally, the Israeli Air Force struck sites in southern Lebanon believed to house “munitions and rocket launchers that posed an immediate threat,” according to an Israeli military spokesperson.
