Jalandhar hosts Eat Right Mela to encourage healthy eating habits

Jalandhar: To spread awareness towards healthy eating habits, Eat Right Mela was organized Saturday at Red Cross Bhawan, Jalandhar, in which Raman Arora participated as the Chief Guest.

ADC Aparna MB Jalandhar and Director, Food & Drug Labs, Punjab Ravneet Kaur Sidhu joined as worthy Guests.

The program was started by lighting the lamp by the Chief Guest, followed by Shabad singing by the students of HMV College, Jalandhar.

After this, Ms. Aparna, Jalandhar welcomed everyone and encouraged everyone to be careful in eating and participate enthusiastically in physical activities to attain physical and mental health.

After this, MLA Raman Arora emphasized that even our religious scriptures stress about the importance of  health and urge the audience to indulge in healthy food habits. 

LPU student won the applause of the audience with a brilliant performance of Bharat Natyam, an important part of the dance style of South India.

The students of K.M.V. College, Jalandhar presented solo song, group song and “Luddi” from the rich cultural heritage of Punjab, enthralling everyone by reviving the ancient culture.

Students from HMV College, gave a brilliant presentation by playing the dhol.

Dr. Harminder Dullowal, Vegetarian Bodybuilder of India, Mr. Asia Gold Medalist and Dr Pooja Bhatt, Dietician and Nutrition Experts held a live panel discussion on the topic of healthy lifestyle and provided extensive information on what to eat and what not to eat to stay healthy and the experts answered various queries raised by the audience.

Mona Madaan,Yoga instructor, Yog Shrishti Centre, with her team, performed a live yoga show and inspired the audience towards yoga and made them aware about the various asanas of yoga.

Students of Nursing College, Civil Hospital, Jalandhar performed a street play on the topic of Eat Right and connected everyone with the topic of Eat Right.

Artists of Folk Punjab Bhangra Academy, Jalandhar gave a brilliant performance of Bhangra.

Manna Mand, famous Punjabi singer entertained everyone by singing various folk songs along with instruments and put the audience to dance with his enthralling performance.

Along with this, a poster making competition was organized for school students on the topic “Healthy Lifestyle”. The main attraction of the fair was the famous food stalls of Jalandhar (especially millet based food), the citizens enjoyed a variety of food.

Ms. Shreya, a President’s Award recipient, displayed various millet based recipes along with other millet based stalls. Stalls related to organic food were also part of the fair.

During the live millet cooking show, various millet based dishes were prepared on the spot to make the citizens aware about millet products.

On this occasion, standies and banners were also put up by the department to make people aware about healthy lifestyles.

The main objective of the fair is to motivate all the citizens to bring some important changes in lifestyle, such as reducing the consumption of salt, sugar and oil in daily life, increasing the use of salads, green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits in the diet, by adopting RUCO (Repurposed Used Cooking Oil) i.e. frying oil not more than twice, including bajra and other millets and fortified food items (rich in minerals and vitamins) in the diet and achieving complete physical and mental health by participating in daily exercise, yoga and various sports activities, thus achieving the goal of creating a ‘Rangla and Healthy Punjab’ as per the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

On this occasion, ADC (G) Aparna, and Director, Food & Drug Labs, Punjab Ravneet Kaur Sidhu, Dr. Harjot Pal Singh, Assistant Commissioner (Food),  besides employees of Health Department, students and general public were present.
