Srinagar: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) unit of the Jammu and Kashmir Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted a raid at the Central Jail in Srinagar as part of an operation targeting anti-national activities.

According to official sources, the extensive search operation commenced on Tuesday morning as part of an ongoing investigation into possible connections between some inmates and anti-national elements.

The operation aimed to uncover crucial evidence, curtail illegal activities, and prevent the misuse of communication devices, including mobile phones, within the high-security prison. Initial reports suggest that multiple mobile phones used for unauthorized communications were recovered during the search, which included several barracks.

The jail authorities worked closely with the CIK to facilitate a comprehensive investigation. This raid is part of a broader strategy involving recent searches at ten locations across Kashmir, leading to the detention of seven suspects.

In response to a series of terrorist attacks against the Army, security forces, police, and civilians in J&K, security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, their Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and sympathizers. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has emphasized a coordinated effort to eliminate terrorism in the Union Territory, particularly following the deadly attack in Gagangir on October 20, where seven individuals, including six non-local workers and a local doctor, were killed.

On Tuesday, security forces also reported the killing of a sought-after Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, Junaid Ahmad Bhat, in the Dachigam area of Srinagar district. Bhat was one of the two terrorists implicated in the Gagangir attack, according to police sources.
