New Delhi: The government has abruptly ended the term of Krishnamurthy Subramanian, India’s Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with immediate effect. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) issued an official order dated April 30, 2025, terminating his services less than halfway through his three-year term, which began in November 2022.

Subramanian, who also represented Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan at the IMF Board, is no longer listed on the Fund’s website as of May 3, with the position now marked vacant.

According to the notice issued by the government on 30-04-2025 teh appointment committe of cabinet has approved termination of services of Dr. Krishnamurthy Subramanian as Executive Director (India) at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with immediate effect. 

The government has already begun the process of identifying a replacement for the key international role.

Before his IMF tenure, Subramanian served as India’s Chief Economic Adviser from 2018 to 2021. He holds a PhD in financial economics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
