Chandigarh: In view of the Delhi Assembly elections, liquor shops will remain closed for 2 days in Haryana. This decision will be applicable in 2 districts of the state which fall in NCR, Gurugram and Faridabad. On this day, liquor shops will remain closed from 6 am to 6 pm.
This decision will be applicable on the voting day on Wednesday, February 5 and on the counting day on February 8. The election campaign ended at 5 pm on Monday and the people of Delhi will vote tomorrow on February 5.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the governments of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to close liquor shops in areas bordering Delhi such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad. This ban will remain in force till 6 pm on February 5. The same ban will remain in place on the counting day on February 8.
There will be a holiday in Haryana tomorrow on the day of voting
In view of the assembly elections in Delhi, the Haryana government has declared a paid holiday on February 5 in all government offices, educational institutions, boards and corporations. This holiday will give the state government employees, who are registered voters of Delhi, an opportunity to exercise their franchise.
CCTV surveillance on Delhi borders
Out of the total 15 districts of Delhi, 10 share borders with the neighbouring states of Haryana or Uttar Pradesh. Special CP (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastava, the nodal officer appointed by Delhi Police for the assembly elections, said that there are a total of 164 entry points in Delhi, of which 43 are big and 121 are small.
The police is keeping a constant vigil by setting up check posts. CCTV cameras have been installed there. The police of both the states have also been asked to do checking. Soon a joint operation will be started with the police of the neighboring states.
Sealed border
Police sources have told that there can be supply of illegal liquor and cash from Haryana during the elections. Illegal liquor and cash can be stocked in these states. All kinds of supporters can come from there to support the candidates belonging to the neighbouring state. Therefore, the police will also keep an eye on these things.
For this, joint operations will be conducted with neighbouring states. Delhi goes to polls on February 5. Therefore, the borders were sealed 3 days in advance.
Alert regarding those who create disturbances:
The police has a list of declared miscreants and history sheeters of the districts adjoining the border. There are preparations to take precautionary action against miscreants. In case of any kind of communal tension, alerts will be immediately sent to the police of other states, so that it can be prevented from flaring up. People have also been asked to remain alert regarding suspects who are involved in spoiling the atmosphere.
