Jaipur: A significant disaster was narrowly avoided in Jaipur when a gas leak occurred at an oxygen facility on Vishwakarma Road on Tuesday evening.
The incident was triggered by the sudden breakage of a valve on a tanker carrying 20 tonnes of oxygen, causing a rapid leak that affected visibility over a 200-300 meter area.
Emergency services, including the Vishwakarma police and fire brigade, responded swiftly to the scene. Station House Officer (SHO) Rajendra Sharma confirmed that the leak was contained by shutting off the main valve of the plant. To stabilize the situation, firefighters employed water sprays to dilute the gas concentration.
The leak reduced visibility so significantly that police had to control traffic and slow down vehicles to avoid potential accidents. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or fatalities.
SHO Sharma explained that the leak was caused by the unexpected failure of the tanker’s valve. Thanks to the rapid actions of emergency teams, a major incident was averted, providing reassurance to local residents despite the initial panic. Authorities have since urged plant owners to conduct regular equipment inspections and adhere strictly to safety protocols to prevent future occurrences.
The situation has returned to normal without injuries reported.
It’s worth mentioning that another recent incident on December 20 resulted in the deaths of 20 people and injuries to more than 20 others when a container truck collided with an LPG tanker on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway, leading to a devastating fire. Many victims, including a young woman traveling by sleeper bus and a man returning from shopping for his upcoming wedding, were caught off guard due to the timing of the accident. Some, including retired IAS officer Karni Singh Rathore, were tragically identified only through DNA testing.
