A case has come to light in Jogindernagar of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, where a person was kidnapped and held hostage and a ransom of Rs. 50,000 was demanded from his family. The family members gave Rs. 20,000 to the miscreants. It is alleged that more money was demanded, and the miscreants snatched his mobile phone and ATM card. They were also beaten up.
The victim, who somehow managed to escape and reach home, lodged a complaint with the police. The police have detained one of the accused. According to the police, on Saturday, a person took the complainant Suraj Kumar, a resident of Ropa Padhar Panchayat of Jogindernagar, in an Alto car to Chauntra Bazaar adjacent to the Mandi Pathankot Highway. From here, another named person also joined this kidnapping incident at a place called Machkehad.
Another biker escorted the car to the Avahi Nag temple of Baijnath and took it towards Baijnath. After this, the accused held the victim’s wife hostage for several hours at a camping site in Bir Billing and demanded Rs. 50,000 from her.
On this, his wife gave him 20 thousand rupees. Police station in-charge Jogindernagar Sakini Kapoor said that a person has been taken into custody and questioned. Investigation of the case is ongoing.
