Jammu: A man has been arrested for shooting and injuring Kanav Sharma, the president of BJP Yuva Morcha for Jammu district, police reported on Saturday.
The assailant, Ravinder Singh, a lineman with the Power Development Department (PDD), allegedly fired two shots at Sharma from his licensed firearm during a dispute over a parking space outside Singh’s residence. The altercation took place in the Bakshi Nagar area on Friday.
According to police, the conflict escalated after Sharma parked his vehicle on a street adjacent to Singh’s home. Following a heated exchange, Singh reportedly pulled out his licensed pistol and fired at Sharma before fleeing the scene.
Sharma was promptly taken to Sarwal Hospital for initial treatment and later transferred to Government Medical College (GMC) for further care.
Upon learning of the incident, Jammu Police quickly mobilized, bringing in Forensic Science Laboratory teams to investigate the crime scene. They utilized both technical measures and field intelligence to locate Singh and confiscate the weapon used in the shooting. Singh, a government employee stationed at Parade, Jammu, was on duty in the New Plot area at the time of the incident.
A case has been registered at Bakshi Nagar Police Station as FIR No. 01/2025 under section 109 of the BNS, and an investigation is ongoing. Kanav Sharma is an advocate and the son of senior BJP leader Chander Mohan Sharma.
