Sydney: A man in his 40s has tragically died following a shark attack off the Central Queensland coast in eastern Australia, as reported by local media on December 28. The incident occurred near Yeppoon while he was fishing with family members. He suffered severe neck injuries from the shark bite and passed away just before 6 p.m., shortly after the attack, which took place around 4:37 p.m. This incident marks the second shark attack in Central Queensland within a month.

According to a spokesman from the Queensland Police Service, the attack is part of a concerning trend, with at least four other shark incidents reported in Australian waters this year, as noted by the Australian Shark-Incident Database.

In a separate event on July 23, a man in his 20s was seriously injured by a shark at North Shore Beach in Port Macquarie, New South Wales. Emergency services were alerted just after 11 a.m. local time, and paramedics treated the victim for a significant leg injury before transporting him to Port Macquarie Base Hospital in stable condition. North Shore Beach, which spans over 10 km, is located more than 300 km north of Sydney.

In the aftermath of the July attack, local lifesavers and bystanders provided help using makeshift tourniquets. Beaches between North Shore and Lighthouse Beach (Tacking Point) were closed for at least 24 hours, according to the Port Macquarie Hastings ALS Lifeguards. The SharkSmart map, managed by the NSW state government, indicated that surveillance drones were deployed in the area for safety monitoring.
