Odisha: A Maoist was killed, and a member of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Odisha Police was injured in an encounter that took place near MV-79 in the Jindalguda area of Malkangiri district, Odisha.
According to Y. B. Khurania, the DGP of Odisha Police, the confrontation followed reliable intelligence suggesting that Maoists from Chhattisgarh might enter Malkangiri. Security forces had been monitoring the area for several days before the incident occurred late Wednesday night. The injured commando has been evacuated to a local hospital, and his condition is now reported to be stable.
Khurania mentioned that the police operations against the Maoists are ongoing and emphasized the importance of collaboration with law enforcement in neighboring states to combat Maoist activities. He urged the Maoists to renounce violence and reintegrate into society for the greater good of the state and country.
Recent developments indicate that Chhattisgarh has intensified military operations against Maoist factions, resulting in the neutralization of several extremists. Consequently, police in bordering areas are on high alert for potential migrations of Maoists from Chhattisgarh into Odisha. Notably, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated a goal for India to be free of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) by March 2026.
