New York: The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, has encountered significant delays following the discovery of a legal issue related to an earlier settlement with one of the singer’s molestation accusers. Initially scheduled for release in April 2025, the film has now been pushed to October of the same year as producers work to address the issue. According to a report from Puck on January 23, 2025, the filmmakers are rewriting parts of the script and reshooting much of the film due to a previously overlooked contract clause in the settlement.

The legal challenge stems from the 1993 out-of-court settlement between Jackson and the family of Jordan Chandler, who had accused the pop icon of sexual abuse when he was 13 years old. The settlement, amounting to $25 million, included a clause banning any reference or dramatization of the case. This clause was overlooked during the review of the script, causing complications as the Chandler case forms a significant part of the film’s narrative.

Despite the legal challenges, a spokesperson for the film stressed that the production was still moving forward, with reshoots scheduled for March. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson and Colman Domingo, Michael is now set to hit cinemas on October 3, 2025.
