Jaipur: A serious accident involving over six vehicles, including a sleeper bus, occurred in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, on Friday due to dense fog, resulting in numerous injuries.
The collision took place on the Kothari River bridge along the Ajmer National Highway, trapping several individuals inside their vehicles. The situation worsened when a CNG tanker began leaking, leading to widespread panic. Police quickly responded to the scene after being alerted about the incident, and ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals.
Officials reported that the accident occurred on the Kothari River culvert in the early morning when visibility was significantly impaired by dense fog, which triggered a series of collisions. Many people were injured and required medical attention.
The incident created a substantial traffic jam stretching approximately 1.5 kilometers in both directions on the highway, causing significant delays for commuters. Police worked diligently to clear the congestion and restore traffic flow.
Around 9 a.m., visibility severely diminished, leading to an initial collision between two trucks on the culvert, followed by a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles on both sides of the bridge.
Amid the chaos, a CNG tanker became stranded in the wreckage, with a gas leak raising fears of a potential explosion reminiscent of previous incidents, such as the one in Bhankrota. Fortunately, a major disaster was averted as people in the area quickly sought safety.
The accident resulted in extensive vehicle damage and several injuries. Authorities are continuing their investigation and relief efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This incident follows a tragic event on December 20, when an LPG tanker collided with a truck, causing a massive fire that engulfed over 40 vehicles on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway. The death toll from that incident has risen to 20, with many others injured.
