Mumbai: The 90-year-old Parshvanath Digambar Jain temple located in Vile Parle, Mumbai was demolished by BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) on Wednesday. The Jain community of the whole country is angry with this incident. A non-violent rally was taken out on Saturday morning in protest against the demolition of the temple.
Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha, MLA Parag Alvani and saints of Jain community participated in this rally. Leaders of all parties took out a rally against this action and discussed the future strategy. The Jain community is very angry with this action of BMC and they are demanding action against the guilty officers.
The community has demanded that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis suspend the Municipal Corporation officials involved in the demolition of the temple and that a temple be rebuilt in the same location.
Before this action, the Municipal Corporation had sent a notice to the temple. The Jain community had also filed a petition against it. The hearing on this was to be held on 17 April.
The action of the Brahma Mumbai team was taken before the hearing. Due to this, the people of the Jain community have become aggressive. They expressed their anger in a non-violent manner on Saturday.
Thousands of men and women were seen shouting slogans on the streets. Everyone protested against BMC by wearing black bands. People were shouting slogans – We are not weak, we will build the temple there.
Locals allege that the Jain temple was demolished at the behest of the owner of Ram Krishna restaurant. He wanted to open a bar in the premises but could not get the license because of the temple. So he found out the land-related issues of the temple and got it demolished.
The trustee said- renovation was done with the permission of BMC
Anil Shah, trustee of the temple (Chaityalay) in the Neminath Sahakari Housing Society in Kambliwadi, said it was demolished on April 16. Shah said the temple was from the 1960s and was renovated with the permission of the BMC. He claimed there was a government proposal that said such temples can be regularized. You just have to submit a proposal to the BMC for regularization and we had given that to the BMC.
Mangalprabhat Lodha said- it is the responsibility of all of us to protect religion
Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha also participated in the demonstration of the Jain community. Lodha condemned this action of BMC. He wrote in the post- ‘It is the responsibility of all of us to protect religion. Our revered Bhagwan Parshvanath Jain temple has been demolished in Vile Parle, it is not just a building but an attack on our faith, culture and religion. This rally is to show our solidarity.
Congress said – this is a pre-planned conspiracy
Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad has called it a conspiracy. Varsha said, “What is the demand of the Jain community? Action should be taken against the officials who demolished the temple. Their demand is right. Two JCBs were brought. Women were attacked. The Jain community is peaceful. Have you ever heard its voice? But today they also had to take to the streets. Rallies of the Jain community are being held in Rajasthan and Mumbai.
What is surprising is that MLAs and ministers of the ruling party also joined this rally. This is their government. It is their job to maintain the place of faith. However, this does not seem to be happening. This action was pre-planned. This is a conspiracy.
