Narain Singh Chaura, accused in attack on Sukhbir Badal, granted bail

Narain Singh Chaura, the man accused of attacking Sukhbir Singh Badal, was granted bail today.

Chandigarh: Narain Singh Chaura, the man accused of attacking Sukhbir Singh Badal, was granted bail today. Chaura had been arrested for attacking Sukhbir Singh Badal in Golden Temple premises and was facing serious charges.

This incident happens when Badal had reached Golden Temple as a part of religious punishment given by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, during which a person named Narain Singh Chaura tried to shoot Badal, but the bullet hit the wall and the security personnel immediately caught Narain Chaura and snatched his pistol.

Narain Singh Chaura has been a terrorist of Babbar Khalsa International. He also went to Pakistan in 1984, he has been involved in smuggling of arms and explosives. During his stay in Pakistan, Narain Chaura has also allegedly written a book on guerrilla warfare and anti-national literature. He has previously served a sentence in Punjab jail. In August 2018, he came out of jail after serving a sentence of five years. Several cases are registered against him under the Explosives Act.

Investigation is over, there is no solid reason to keep him in jail

While granting bail to Chaura, the Amritsar court said that the investigation in this case is almost complete and there is no solid reason to keep the accused in jail for a longer period. After which he has been granted bail. However, it is not clear what conditions have been kept for release on bail.

The court’s decision to grant bail has drawn attention, as it comes amidst ongoing discussions around the case.
