Jammu: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches in Handwara, Jammu and Kashmir, on November 30 in relation to a significant drug trafficking case. These operations were supported by local police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This ongoing investigation targets a prominent multi-million-dollar drug racket.

Simultaneously, the J&K Police carried out raids in the Batmaloo and HMT areas of Srinagar under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). According to a police statement, these searches are part of an investigation into individuals allegedly involved in a conspiracy to spread false information and incite violence through manipulated narratives.

Search warrants were obtained from a designated court, leading to raids at the residences of Obais Riyaz Dar in Batmaloo and Sahil Ahmad Bhat in Zainakot, HMT. Police seized electronic devices and other incriminating materials during these operations, and more homes linked to individuals accused of spreading seditious propaganda are under investigation.

Authorities have urged residents to be cautious when using social media, warning against involvement in the dissemination of false information that could foster anti-national sentiments. The police noted a rise in terrorist activities in J&K linked to attempts to undermine recent peaceful Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, emphasizing that cross-border adversaries are encouraging local operatives to spread harmful narratives that could disrupt the region’s stability.
