Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed support for former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Minister Kailash Gahlot’s resignation, stating that anyone who truly cares about Delhi cannot associate with a “gang of robbers.” Gahlot’s resignation, which he attributed to unfulfilled promises and internal party issues, is a significant political shift ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections.
Gahlot, who has held key positions in the Delhi government, including Home, Transport, IT, and Women and Child Development, has been a long-time AAP member. In his resignation letter to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, Gahlot raised concerns about the party’s failure to deliver on its promises, particularly criticizing the controversies surrounding the renovated Chief Minister’s residence, referred to as “Sheeshmahal.” He also highlighted the worsening pollution of the Yamuna River, which the party had pledged to clean, stating that political ambitions have overshadowed their commitment to the public.
In response, Sachdeva accused the AAP government of neglecting the citizens of Delhi and criticized Kejriwal for prioritizing luxury over effective governance. He claimed that the issues raised by Gahlot mirror the BJP’s long-standing criticisms of AAP. Sachdeva also suggested that Gahlot’s concerns could lead to a potential shift to the BJP, although he emphasized that the decision is ultimately up to Gahlot.
Sachdeva reiterated his party’s stance against AAP, calling it a “gang of robbers,” and stated that anyone who genuinely cares for Delhi would not remain with such a group. Gahlot’s resignation poses a challenge for AAP as it prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections, raising questions about the party’s internal cohesion and its ability to fulfill its commitments.
