Srinagar: In a historic recruitment event for the J&K Police, over 559,000 candidates are set to take part in the examination for 4,002 constable positions starting today.

The recruitment process will kick off with written exams scheduled for December 1, 8, and 22, taking place at 856 centers across all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

To ensure a fair and transparent selection process, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha held a high-level meeting on Saturday to oversee the recruitment conducted by the Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB).

Indu Kanwal Chib, chairperson of the SSRB, confirmed that 262,863 candidates will participate in the test for constable (Executive/Armed/SDRF) roles today, with the Jammu district having the highest number of candidates at 54,296.

On December 8, 167,609 candidates will take the exam for constable (Telecommunications) roles, and on December 22, 128,663 candidates are expected to sit for the constable (Photographer) exam.

To maintain security and order, both male and female officers will serve as frisking supervisors at the exam centers, and the entire process will be videographed.

Atal Dulloo, the chief secretary of J&K, has mandated the deployment of sufficient staff, including observers and security personnel, at each examination center to facilitate a smooth and secure process.

Additionally, the SSRB will initiate the recruitment for 669 sub-inspector positions on December 3, with applications open until January 2, 2025.

It’s important to note that the previous recruitment process for sub-inspector positions faced significant issues when it was revealed that test papers were leaked in 2022. A CBI investigation uncovered that papers were sold for between Rs 20 to 30 lakhs by 24 individuals, including a BSF officer. This led to the cancellation of the selection process and legal action against the accused, prompting the J&K government to overhaul the SSRB by replacing all members and staff involved in the 2022 recruitment.
