Kyiv [Ukraine]: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the country is actively collaborating with its partners, including the US and Saudi Arabia, to promote peace and enhance security. In a post on X, Zelenskyy stated that substantial efforts will be made with these partners to expedite peace negotiations with Russia.

“We continue to work with those who share our commitment to peace, focusing on the essential steps needed,” Zelenskyy wrote. “Next week, we will undertake significant work in Europe, the U.S., and Saudi Arabia to prepare a meeting aimed at accelerating peace and reinforcing security.”

He also mentioned ongoing intense discussions with former President Donald Trump’s team, with a focus on achieving peace as swiftly as possible while ensuring robust security for Ukraine.

Earlier, Trump had suggested he is “strongly considering” imposing large-scale banking sanctions, tariffs, and other measures on Russia until a ceasefire and a final peace agreement with Ukraine are reached. In a post on Truth Social, Trump urged both Russia and Ukraine to return to the negotiating table immediately to prevent further escalation.

Meanwhile, Ukraine and the United States are planning to meet in Saudi Arabia next week to discuss a framework for resolving the ongoing conflict. Zelenskyy announced plans to visit Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and then hold bilateral talks with US officials.

US envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that he would meet with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia, focusing on discussions about an “initial ceasefire” and a framework for a long-term peace agreement. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the talks will be held in the Red Sea city of Jeddah.

Following a tense exchange with Zelenskyy on March 1, Trump had suspended military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, accusing the Ukrainian president of not expressing sufficient gratitude for the support the US has provided in Ukraine’s conflict with Russia, which began in February 2022.
