PM Modi, HM Shah, others pay tributes to former PM Manmohan Singh

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other notable leaders visited the residence of the late former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Friday morning to express their condolences to his family. Dr. Singh, who passed away on Thursday night at the age of 92, was remembered fondly by leaders.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other notable leaders visited the residence of the late former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Friday morning to express their condolences to his family. Dr. Singh, who passed away on Thursday night at the age of 92, was remembered fondly by leaders from various political backgrounds.

PM Modi conveyed his profound sorrow and praised Dr. Singh for his significant contributions to the nation’s development, stating, “Dr. Manmohan Singh’s vision and integrity as a leader will forever remain etched in India’s history.”

Amit Shah also paid his respects, describing Dr. Singh as a statesman and an accomplished economist who played a crucial role in shaping India’s modern economic landscape.

BJP President and Union Minister J.P. Nadda joined in the tributes, highlighting Dr. Singh’s dedication to public service over his distinguished career.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat extended his condolences as well, recognizing Dr. Singh’s substantial contributions to the nation. The official RSS account on social media expressed: “The entire nation is deeply saddened by the demise of former Prime Minister and senior leader Dr. Sardar Manmohan Singh. The RSS conveys heartfelt condolences to his family and numerous admirers. Dr. Singh, who rose from humble beginnings, served in the highest office of the country.”

In honor of Dr. Singh’s legacy, the Central government has declared a seven-day period of national mourning until January 1, 2025. A notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs instructed all states and Union Territories to lower the national flag to half-mast during this time and to cancel all official entertainment events.

Dr. Singh’s last rites will be conducted with full state honors, reflecting the nation’s appreciation for his decades of dedicated service.

Serving as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, Dr. Singh is remembered for his pivotal role in India’s economic liberalization during the early 1990s. His leadership style, characterized by intellectual rigor and a calm demeanor, earned him respect both domestically and internationally.

The nation mourns the loss of one of its most esteemed leaders, whose contributions have profoundly impacted India’s evolution as a global economic player.
