New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to watch the film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ today at 4 p.m., following his recent praise for its depiction of the Godhra train burning incident from 2002. The screening will take place at Balayogi Auditorium within the Parliament Library building, with several Cabinet members expected to join him.
Recently, PM Modi commended the film for “uncovering the truth” behind the Godhra tragedy, which resulted in the deaths of 59 individuals, including women and children. He expressed that it is beneficial for the truth to be accessible to the public, stating, “It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way that common people can see it.” He also remarked on social media that “a fake narrative can persist only for a limited time,” emphasizing that facts will ultimately prevail.
The film has already been viewed by several BJP Chief Ministers, including UP’s Yogi Adityanath and Haryana’s Nayab Singh Saini. To promote attendance, the film has been made tax-free in BJP-ruled states such as Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Chhattisgarh, encouraging more viewers to experience its portrayal of the Godhra tragedy.
After viewing the film, UP CM Yogi Adityanath congratulated the filmmakers, asserting that it would “expose” individuals who have used divisive narratives for political gain. ‘The Sabarmati Report’, featuring Vikrant Massey, centers on the burning of the Sabarmati Express train, which occurred on February 27, 2002, when a mob set fire to the S6 coach at Godhra railway station in Gujarat. In the film, Massey portrays a Hindi journalist who confronts the system to report the truth.
