Mumbai: Actress Pooja Banerjii has spoken out against false accusations linking her to a money laundering case, expressing her disappointment over the allegations.
In a heartfelt social media post, Pooja stated that she was wrongfully implicated, with her name, photo, and credentials disseminated widely by various media outlets. While she was in South Africa with family during the controversy, she expressed frustration over the media’s handling of the allegations, noting that many outlets failed to verify the facts with her or her team before publishing the story. Despite her attempts to clarify the situation with several journalists, she claimed some ignored her, while others refused to retract their statements due to pride.
In her Instagram message, she wrote: “Happy New Year to all! I didn’t plan to share this as my first post of 2025, but recent events have been disappointing. I have been falsely accused of a money laundering case, with the story circulated by numerous media outlets. I was unaware of this while in South Africa, as no one sought my or my team’s comment.”
She added that the allegations caused distress for her family, prompting them to consider legal action to protect her reputation. Pooja apologized to anyone affected by the rumors and committed to standing against lies, urging the media to fact-check their reports more diligently. She concluded her post with a call for support and expressed her belief in the media’s ability to effect positive change.
Last month, Banerjii and fellow actress Mallika Sherawat were questioned by the Enforcement Directorate regarding their alleged connections to a Pakistani betting platform, Magicwin.
