Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Pratap Singh Bajwa, has refrained from answering key questions posed by the Punjab Police regarding his recent statement about the recovery of 32 grenades in the state.

According to police sources, during the latest round of questioning, Bajwa did not respond to any of the three specific questions:

  1. What is the source of your claim about the recovery of 32 grenades?
  2. On what basis did you make this statement?
  3. Where exactly are the 32 grenades you referred to?

Despite being given the opportunity to clarify, Bajwa offered no answers. Even in the newspaper report where he made the statement, he failed to substantiate the claim with any evidence or source.

The FIR against Bajwa was registered in Qadian, Gurdaspur district, following a complaint that his remarks were misleading and aimed at inciting fear. Bajwa has since moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking to quash the FIR, calling it “politically motivated.”

His silence in the face of direct police questioning has raised further questions about the credibility of his explosive claim.

Bajwa has previously accused the Aam Aadmi Party-led government of converting Punjab into a “police state,” where the voices of dissent are being strangled “mercilessly” . He has also alleged that the AAP government facilitated the airing of an interview of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi on a TV news channel when he was lodged in a Punjab jail .

The Punjab Police have been actively investigating recent grenade attacks in the state. In December 2024, three members of the Khalistan Zindabad Force involved in a grenade attack in Gurdaspur were killed in a police encounter .

As the investigation continues, the police are seeking concrete evidence to substantiate Bajwa’s claims. The absence of such evidence thus far has led to increased scrutiny of his statements.

Earlier Chief Minister Bagwant Mann also raised questions about the source of Bajwa’s claims. He was questioned by Mohali police today after seven days of stay by High court.
