New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi is visiting Wayanad today for the first time since her recent bypoll victory, where she was elected as the MP with a significant margin of 410,931 votes. This event will feature a joint public meeting with her brother, Rahul Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The meeting is set to take place in Mukkam, located in the Thiruvambadi Assembly constituency of Kozhikode district.

Later in the day, Priyanka will be welcomed at receptions in Karulai, Wandoor, and Edavanna, scheduled for 2:15 PM, 3:30 PM, and 4:30 PM, respectively. She officially took her oath as Wayanad MP on Thursday, greeted by cheers and chants of “Bharat Jodo” from Congress supporters. In a symbolic gesture, she held a booklet of the Indian Constitution, reflecting the ideals of the INDIA bloc during the current Parliament session.

The bypoll was called after Rahul Gandhi vacated the seat earlier this year, and the campaign focused on whether Priyanka could exceed her brother’s previous record margin. Her victory is seen as a crucial milestone in her political career, nearly two decades after she first campaigned for her mother, Sonia Gandhi, and her brother in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. This marks her debut as an elected official and is viewed as a vital step in strengthening Congress’s presence in Kerala and revitalizing the party’s prospects nationally.
