Jalandhar: Lok Sabha member from Sangrur Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer has become the President of the Punjab Badminton Association. He was elected in the association’s executive meeting held in Jalandhar today. Meet Hayer is also the former Sports Minister of Punjab and a good badminton and cricket player.
In the election of the association, Ritin Khanna became the secretary, Lalit Gupta, Sandeep Rinwa, Vinay Vohra, Kavi Raj Dogra, Vinod Vatrana and Rohit Jain became the vice presidents, Anupam Kumaria the treasurer, Chittaranjan Bansal and Jatinder Sandhu the secretaries, Jaswant Dhillon, Shamsher Dhillon and Punjab Masih the joint secretaries.
While thanking all the district badminton associations and office bearers, Meet Hayer said that he will fulfill this responsibility by taking everyone along. He said that efforts will be made to spread the game of badminton in the state and take the players to the international level. Efforts will be made to provide badminton courts in every corner of the state. He said that Punjab has given very good results in badminton in the past and efforts will be made to bring even better results.
Meet Hayer is currently a Lok Sabha member from Sangrur, he has been elected as an MLA twice from Barnala. He is the President of the Barnala District Badminton Association.
In today’s meeting, the newly elected Secretary Ritin Khanna, while releasing the calendar for the year 2025-26, emphasized on increasing the ranking competition and talked about providing free food and cash prizes for the players during the tournament. During the meeting, a two-minute silence was also observed in memory of the departed badminton coach Harjinder Singh.
In the election of the Punjab Badminton Association, Parminder Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Ranbir Dhindsa, Rahul Kaplish, Manoj Kumar, Sukhchain Singh, Gurpreet Bajwa, Harinder Sharma and Vishal Ralla were elected as executive members.
