Chandigarh: Farmers have decided to observe a Punjab Bandh on December 30 in support of their ongoing farmers’ protest, which includes 13 demands, among them a legal guarantee of minimum support prices for crops.

During this protest, employees of the Punjab Roadways and Transport Corporation (PRTC) will also participate. As a result, government buses will not operate for approximately four hours across Punjab. About 1,125 buses will be completely off the roads. The buses will not be operational from 10 AM to 2 PM. A union meeting regarding the Punjab Bandh has taken place, and a strategy for this struggle has been planned. During this time, union Chairman Baljinder Singh Rath and President Resham Singh mentioned that the farmers have called for a Punjab Bandh from 7 AM to 4 PM. However, a full-day strike is not feasible.

Therefore, considering public convenience, it has been decided to halt bus services from 10 AM to 2 PM. Moreover, employees will support the ongoing farmers’ protests. PRTC operates bus services on 577 routes in Punjab and other states. This will affect the services during this period. These buses cover Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand.

PRTC has nine depots, including Patiala, Bathinda, Kapurthala, Barnala, Sangrur, Budhlada, Faridkot, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh. There are over three thousand employees working in the department. Additionally, in a decision made during the meeting regarding the Punjab Bandh, it was decided that conductors would inform passengers about the strike before issuing tickets until the 29th, so that those traveling on buses would be aware in advance. However, farmers have already made it clear that private bus operators have supported their cause.
