Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has decided to conduct Psychometric tests for class 10th girl students in government schools to find out the career interest, ability and aptitude. District level committees have been established to oversee the progress.
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that an amount of more than Rs 6.56 crore has been allocated to all the districts for the test by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Psychometric tests of all 93 thousand 819 girl students of the state will be conducted by March 31, 2025.
Committees formed in districts under the leadership of DEO
For the scheme, district level committees have been formed under the leadership of District Education Officer (Secondary) across the state. These committees will monitor the testing process and all the work in their respective districts. The main objective of this initiative is to analyze the mental abilities, interests and personality traits of the girl students, so that they can be guided in choosing the right direction of their career.
Students get confused after 10th class
The Education Minister said that most of the girl students are confused about their future after the 10th board examination. This dilemma affects the decision of choosing the stream in class 11th. Career counseling facilities are usually available in private schools, but the girl students of government schools were not able to get this facility, due to which they often choose the stream by looking at their friends.
Due to this many girl students were not able to choose a career according to their interest and ability.
What is a psychometric test?
