Punjab: Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing, Ravneet Singh Bittu, on Wednesday announced that the Railways will soon grant formal approval for the construction of an overbridge at LC Gate 62A in Dhuri. He stated that this project has been a long-standing demand of the local residents.

While making the announcement, Bittu launched a sharp attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of falsely taking credit for a project he allegedly made no efforts towards.

Bittu said, “Earlier today, the Chief Minister tweeted that ₹54.76 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of the overbridge. This statement is completely misleading. In the past three years, the Mann government has not contributed even a single rupee for any cost-sharing railway overbridge project in Punjab. If they had even released ₹54.76 lakh, they would have held a press conference about it. This ₹54.76 crore claim is purely for show.”

He challenged the Chief Minister to disclose which account the said funds are lying in and why they haven’t been released yet.

Bittu added that some time ago, local residents from Dhuri had approached him with their grievances, especially regarding the severe inconvenience caused by the closed railway gate. Taking up their concerns, he said he raised the issue at the central level, resulting in swift progress from the Railway Ministry.

He further accused CM Mann of ignoring the longstanding demand, despite being the MLA from Dhuri. “Now that the Railway Ministry is taking the initiative, Bhagwant Mann is shamelessly trying to claim credit,” Bittu alleged.

While interacting with the media during his visit to Dhuri, Bittu said several BJP leaders and citizen groups had frequently raised concerns over the urgent need for an overbridge at Gate 62A.

“The gate remains closed for hours every day, dividing the town into two parts and severely affecting the daily lives of residents. People often have to wait for three to four hours just to cross the railway line,” he said.

Bittu also accused CM Mann of neglecting Dhuri after becoming the Chief Minister. He said, “Where past Chief Ministers have made serious efforts to develop their own constituencies, Bhagwant Mann has completely failed in this regard. Since becoming CM, he has not held a single public dialogue in Dhuri. The bus stand is in a pathetic condition, and the local hospital lacks even basic infrastructure.”
