Mumbai: Raj Thackeray, the chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), urged party workers to focus on critical issues such as inflation, unemployment, and the discrimination faced by Marathis in their own state in his New Year message on January 1. Following the party’s poor performance in the recent Assembly elections, he emphasized the need for action.
He proposed establishing a contact room in each party office to address atrocities against women and to follow up on cases that are not being registered. Thackeray even suggested that if authorities fail to act, party members should take matters into their own hands against the perpetrators.
Thackeray called for vigilance against hoarding of essential goods, encouraging workers to report such activities and to act as a bridge between farmers and consumers. He reflected on the significance of the past 25 years, noting the many changes that have occurred, while also highlighting the persistent insecurities faced by Marathi people in Mumbai, particularly in terms of employment opportunities, which seem to favor outsiders.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by inflation and the impact on the lives of workers, urging party members to learn from past electoral setbacks and to re-engage with the community. He encouraged the opening of party offices to the public and reminded workers to be cautious of social media influences. Thackeray reaffirmed his commitment to stand up for Marathi and Hindu identities in the face of perceived threats.
