Dausa: In Dausa district, Rajasthan, a five-year-old boy named Aryan tragically lost his life after falling into a 150-foot deep borewell in Kalikhad village on December 9. Despite a rescue operation that lasted 56 hours, he could not be saved and was declared dead by medical officials late Wednesday night.
Aryan fell into the borewell around 3 p.m. on Saturday, just a short distance from his home and in front of his mother. Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), quickly mobilized to assist. However, after being pulled out late Wednesday, he was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
According to Chief Medical Officer Deepak Sharma, Aryan likely suffered injuries from hitting a hard object when he fell, and the extended period without food and water, along with the harsh conditions inside the borewell, may have been detrimental to his survival. The time of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report.
The rescue operation faced various difficulties. Movement from Aryan stopped around 2 a.m. on Monday, despite the provision of continuous oxygen. Collector Devendra Kumar stated that an umbrella was placed below Aryan to prevent him from falling further. Initially, a pit was dug 20 feet away from the borewell using a piling machine, but technical issues caused a delay of 3 to 4 hours. Makeshift tools and inventive methods were attempted but proved unsuccessful. Finally, the team resumed digging near the borewell with a different machine, managing to retrieve Aryan after an exhausting 56-hour effort.
Aryan’s death has deeply affected the local community and garnered national attention, raising serious concerns about the safety of open borewells.
