Kozhikode: AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi took her oath as the Wayanad MP on Thursday and arrived in the constituency on Saturday for her first visit following her decisive win in the November 13 bye-election.

Joined by her brother Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Priyanka expressed her excitement to be back in Wayanad. “I am genuinely happy to return and am eager to start working for the people of Wayanad to improve their lives,” she stated at the Kozhikode airport.

On her agenda for the day are multiple public meetings, starting in Mukkam at 2:15 P.M., followed by receptions at Karulai and Wandoor at 3:30 P.M. and 4:30 P.M., respectively.

Priyanka secured her seat in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll with an impressive margin of 410,931 votes, surpassing her brother Rahul’s previous win margin of 360,000 votes from the April Lok Sabha elections, though slightly under his 430,000-vote margin from the 2019 elections. This bypoll became necessary after Rahul vacated the seat earlier this year.

During the campaign, a key focus was whether Priyanka could exceed her brother’s substantial winning margin. Her victory is regarded as a crucial milestone in her political career, marking almost 20 years since she first campaigned for her mother Sonia Gandhi in Raebareli and her brother in Amethi during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.

Her election as a representative is seen as a major step towards strengthening Congress’s influence in Kerala and revitalizing the party’s prospects on the national stage.
