Fatehgarh Sahib: The investigation report of the collision of two goods trains four days ago in Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab has revealed that the loco pilot and his assistant had fallen asleep while driving. Due to which they could not apply brakes at the red signal.

This is why this accident happened. However, the investigation report has revealed that two coaches of the passenger train also came under its grip. Now further action is to be taken by the Railways in this regard.

This is how the accident happened

The investigation report has revealed that this accident happened on June 2 at around 3:15 am between Sirhind Junction and Sadhugarh station in Punjab. When the engine UP GVGN first hit the standing goods train. After this it derailed and fell directly on the main passenger line.

However, at that time Kolkata Jammu Tawi Special train was passing through there. Its speed was low. It was running at a speed of about 46 kilometers per hour. Its last two coaches also came under its grip. At that time the pilot of the train had applied brakes. Due to which many people were saved from becoming victims of the accident.

Both the pilots were trapped in the engine

After the accident, the loco pilot and assistant loco pilot were trapped inside the overturned engine. The railway employees present on the spot had to break the windshield and take them out. Both were admitted to the hospital in an injured state. Three passengers suffered minor injuries.

However, the investigation team has said that they did not take the statement of both the drivers because they were injured and were admitted to the hospital. While the train manager has mentioned in his written statement that when they were rescued from the engine, they had confessed that they had fallen asleep while driving. The investigation team has taken statements of about 22 people.

The accident would not have happened if they had come after resting

The train manager told the investigation team in writing that if the LP (loco pilot) and ALP (assistant loco pilot) had come to duty after taking complete rest and had been alert while driving, then this incident could have been avoided.

The organization of loco pilots accused the railways that due to their shortage, train drivers are being made to do more work. The roster chart of these drivers shows that they have done several consecutive night duties in the past which is against the railway norms.
