Guna: Rescue operations are underway to save a 10-year-old boy, Sumit Meena, who fell into a 140-foot borewell in Pipliya village, Guna district, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. while he was flying a kite.
Local authorities, including the police, initiated the rescue efforts immediately, and a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived from Bhopal later that evening. To assist in the rescue, a parallel pit approximately 25 feet deep has been excavated, and oxygen is being pumped into the borewell. Guna Collector Satendra Singh noted that the borewell, which had no water, lacked casing.
The boy’s family began to panic when he was missing for an extended period, leading to the search that ultimately revealed his fall into the borewell. Updates on the rescue operation are still pending.
In a related incident in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district, efforts continue to rescue three-year-old Chetna, who has been trapped in a 150-foot deep borewell since December 23. Her mother, Dholi Devi, has been anxiously praying for her daughter’s safe return for over 110 hours. Initial rescue attempts using an iron ring attached to a rope were unsuccessful, and a piling machine was brought in to dig a parallel pit. Heavy rain has hampered these efforts, and rescuers have been unable to provide food or water to Chetna, raising serious concerns about her condition. A medical team is on standby at the site.
This situation follows a similar case in Dausa district, Rajasthan, where a five-year-old boy fell into a borewell and, despite over 55 hours of rescue attempts, could not be saved.
