Amritsar: Police in Amritsar on Tuesday said that a robber namely Vikramjit Singh alias Pintu, who had been arrested by Amritsar police in a robbery case, was injured in a police encounter.
Official sources said that Vikramjit has been admitted to the hospital. The accused robber was the main accused in the robbery of the Granthi of Golden Temple a few days ago.
In this case, his accomplice Lovepreet Singh alias Love is also in police custody, while raids are on to arrest another.
Vikramjeet has previously committed three crimes, including snatching mobile and purse from a JE, robbing a man of his bike and mobile phone, and snatching an iPhone in the area.
During the arrest, accused Vikram informed the police that he had hidden a 32 bore pistol. The police reached Maqboolpura area to recover it. A 32 bore pistol and 5 cartridges were recovered from the accused. While returning from police custody, Vikramjit made an excuse of ill health and took advantage of the situation and tried to snatch the pistol of ASI Harnek Singh.
During this, a fight broke out between the two and a bullet was fired, which hit Vikramjeet’s leg. He was immediately admitted to the hospital. Police is investigating the case further.
