Moscow: Russia’s Tatarstan Republic has declared a state of emergency for government bodies and emergency response units to manage the aftermath of Ukrainian drone attacks. The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, signed an order for this emergency mode to help address the consequences of the attacks efficiently, as per legal requirements. The order only affects those involved in the response efforts and does not impact the general public.

On Saturday, Tatarstan’s capital, Kazan, was hit by eight drone strikes, six of which targeted residential buildings. Preliminary reports indicated no injuries. Governor Minnikhanov confirmed that six drones struck residential areas, one hit an industrial site, and another was shot down over a river.

The attacks, which Ukraine has not acknowledged due to its security policy, followed a Ukrainian missile strike on Friday in Russia’s Kursk region, which killed six people, including a child. In retaliation, Moscow launched 113 drones into Ukraine overnight into Saturday. Ukrainian officials reported shooting down 57 drones, with 56 others likely being jammed electronically.

After the attack, operations at Izhevsk Airport near Kazan were temporarily suspended but resumed by 3:00 PM local time.
