Saina Nehwal announce separation from husband after nearly 6 years of marriage

Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal announced her separation from her husband and badminton player Parupalli Kashyap (P. Kashyap) late on Sunday night.

New Delhi, July 14: Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal announced her separation from her husband and badminton player Parupalli Kashyap (P. Kashyap) late on Sunday night. She wrote in her Instagram story, ‘After much thought, Kashyap and I have decided to separate.’

Saina wrote, ‘Life sometimes takes us in different directions. We are choosing peace, growth and recovery for each other. I am grateful for all the memories with him and wish him all the best for the future. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy.’

Saina informed about her separation from her husband on Instagram at around 11 pm on Sunday.

Saina Nehwal had a love marriage with Kashyap Parupalli on December 14, 2018. Both were in a relationship since 2007. However, they knew each other since 2005. In the early days of their career, both used to train together at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad.

Saina-Kashyap hosted a reception party in Hyderabad

Saina married P. Kashyap at her home in Hyderabad. Only family and close friends attended the wedding. The two hosted their wedding reception party at Novotel Hotel in Hyderabad on December 16, 2018.

Many famous faces from the sports world including V Chamundeshwarnath, Kidambi Srikanth, Jwala Gutta, Ashwini Ponnappa, Sudheer Babu and from the cinema industry including Nagarjuna, Rakul Preet attended this high-profile reception party.

Saina wore a blue velvet lehenga designed by fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Kashyap wore a silk blue sherwani with hand embroidery on it. Sabyasachi shared the details of the couple’s clothes in a tweet.

Saina is the first Indian badminton player to win an Olympic medal

Saina Nehwal, a resident of Haryana, is the first Indian badminton player to win an Olympic medal. She won a bronze medal for India in the London Olympics-2012. She was the world number-1 player in the women’s singles ranking in 2015.

Saina is the only female Indian player to achieve the world number-1 rank in badminton. She has represented India in 3 Olympic Games. Saina won gold medals in the 2010 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Saina made headlines by winning the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Junior Championships in 2008. The same year she participated in the Olympics for the first time. She became the first Indian woman to reach the Olympic quarter-finals.

She defeated then world number-5 Wang Chen of Hong Kong, but lost to Maria Kristin Yulianti of Indonesia. In 2009, Saina became the first Indian to win a BWF Super Series event. Saina was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2009 and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2010.

Kashyap won the gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games

Parupalli Kashyap hails from Hyderabad, Telangana. He won a gold medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. This was the first medal in the Commonwealth Games by an Indian badminton player in 32 years.

Kashyap has been a student of both former All-England champion Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand. He is also the first Indian male badminton player to reach the quarter-finals of the Olympics in 2012.

In 2013, Kashyap was ranked number 6 in the world rankings. This was the highest rank of his career. However, due to frequent injuries, he could not hold on to this position for long.
