Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the government are set to hold their second round of discussions today at the Parliament House in Islamabad.
This meeting follows internal consultations within PTI to finalize their key demands. National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will chair the session, which will be held in the Constitution Committee Room.
The talks aim to address ongoing political tensions, with PTI focusing on critical issues such as the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26, as well as the release of political prisoners. These demands have gained urgency amid the current political and social unrest in Pakistan.
A spokesperson for the National Assembly noted that the meeting time had been adjusted at the request of members, highlighting efforts to accommodate both parties for more productive discussions. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq is leading the negotiations, emphasizing the necessity of dialogue to resolve the impasse.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur reiterated PTI’s commitment to peaceful negotiations but warned that the party is prepared to initiate a protest movement if the talks do not yield satisfactory results. In an interview with a private news channel, Gandapur mentioned that PTI founder Imran Khan has authorized party leaders to engage in discussions with the government in the national interest. He stressed that while PTI is open to dialogue, they will not hesitate to mobilize if their demands—specifically the formation of an independent judicial commission and the release of their leaders and political workers—are not met.
The ongoing negotiations are being closely monitored as both sides seek a way forward amidst rising political tensions. PTI’s readiness to protest if necessary suggests that the outcome of today’s meeting could significantly impact the country’s political landscape.
