Kolkata: A sense of panic arose in the Gold Green area of Kolkata on Friday when a severed head of a woman was found among garbage in a litter van. Morning walkers who stumbled upon the gruesome sight quickly alerted local police.
Law enforcement arrived promptly to retrieve the severed head; however, the woman’s body or any body parts were not found in the vicinity. Sources within the police indicate that it’s possible the body was dismembered and disposed of in various locations to confuse investigators and prolong the inquiry.
Officials are focused on identifying the victim and determining the circumstances of her death, as well as apprehending those responsible for this horrific act, according to a police spokesperson.
Local residents were unable to recognize the woman, prompting investigators to review surveillance footage from cameras in the area. Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Bidisha Kalita, personally visited the scene.
The discovery of the severed head in such a bustling and affluent neighborhood has sent shockwaves through the community. Just two days prior, a decomposed male body wrapped in a sack was removed from a litter vat in Thakurpukur on Kolkata’s southern outskirts. Police suspect he might have been a homeless individual, whose death could have resulted from an accident in the garbage.
Earlier this year, in April, police found the body parts of a woman packed in plastic bags at an abandoned barrack of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in South Kolkata; she was identified within a few days.
