Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has agreed to withdraw his resignation after being persuaded by Akali Dal Working Committee members and Sukhbir Badal. In the coming days, he will reach the SGPC office in Amritsar and take charge.
Sukhbir Singh badal and several senior leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) met Advocate Dhami at his residence and persuaded him to assume his responsibilities as SGPC chief. Earlier on Monday, the SGPC working committee had rejected Harjinder Singh Dhami’s resignation and reached his residence in effort to persuade him to reconsider his decision.
Former Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal, who came to persuade them, said – Whatever is happening with the Sikh community today, the entire community needs to fight it bravely. The strength of the Sikh community comes from Gurudwaras. We have seen that Takht Hazur Sahib, Takht Patna Sahib, Delhi SGPC, SGPC were broken and SGPC was formed and our enemies were sent there. In such a situation, there is a need for everyone to come together, identify their enemies and fight together for the community. These are the loyal soldiers of the party.
Pradhan Harjinder Singh Dhami said- For a long time, different SGPC members, Singh Sahib and Akali Dal were repeatedly asking me to take back my resignation. First the Executive Committee rejected my resignation. Now all the committee members have arrived, now their orders are my obedience. I will go and take charge of the service in 2-4 days.
