Bengaluru: A tragic incident in Bengaluru revealed how a minor dispute over fetching a cigarette led to the death of a software professional. The man was killed after a stranger, whom he refused to help, hit his motorcycle with his car. The attacker has now been apprehended by police.

The victim, 29-year-old H.N. Sanjay from Vajarahalli, was killed at Vasanthapura Cross on Kanakapura Road. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Prateek from Rajarajeshwari Nagar, works as a manager at a private firm.

Police have obtained CCTV footage of the incident and registered a case of murder.

According to reports, on May 10, Sanjay was smoking on the roadside with his friend, Chetan Pujamath, during a break from work. At that time, Prateek arrived in his car and asked Sanjay to buy a cigarette from a nearby vendor, while he remained seated inside the vehicle.

When Sanjay refused and rebuked Prateek for his entitled attitude, an argument ensued. The locals intervened to calm the situation, and Prateek, angered, drove off and parked his car nearby.

Later, while Sanjay and Chetan were returning to their office on Sanjay’s motorcycle, Prateek allegedly rammed his vehicle into their bike from behind. Sanjay was thrown onto the road, suffering serious head injuries, and later died in the hospital. Chetan, who was riding as a pillion rider, also sustained severe injuries and is receiving treatment.

It was reported that Prateek, who was intoxicated at the time, was returning home with his wife after attending a party. The Subramanyapura police are continuing their investigation, and further details are awaited.
