Quetta: A suicide bombing targeting a passenger van and a police vehicle in Balochistan has resulted in the deaths of at least eight security personnel and injured over 40 others, most of whom were also members of the security forces.
The attack, attributed to the separatist group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), took place in the Dhang area of Turbat. Witnesses reported a significant explosion as the passenger van and the adjacent police vehicle were struck.
It was later confirmed that many passengers in the van were security officials. Following the blast, police and security forces quickly cordoned off the area, while rescue teams transported the injured and deceased to local hospitals, where many were reported to be in critical condition.
The Majeed Brigade faction of the BLA claimed responsibility for the attack, stating, “The Majeed Brigade Firdayee (suicide bomber) unit of the Baloch Liberation Army executed a Fidayeen attack on a convoy of the occupying Pakistani army in Turbat, resulting in multiple military casualties.”
This incident is part of a series of attacks by the BLA in Balochistan, primarily targeting military convoys, security checkpoints, and police vehicles. The BLA’s Majeed Brigade has previously conducted ambushes against security personnel and their families.
Balochistan remains one of the most difficult regions for Pakistani security forces. In a recent briefing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the armed forces carried out approximately 57,775 military operations in 2024, mainly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
As 2025 begins, the recent attacks by the BLA in Turbat highlight the ongoing security challenges that will likely keep the forces vigilant.
