Hyderabad: In a suspected honor killing, a woman police constable named Nagamani was allegedly murdered by her brother Pramesh for marrying outside her caste. The incident occurred on Monday morning in Ibrahimpatnam, near Hyderabad, as Nagamani was on her way to her duty at Hayathnagar Police Station.

Reports indicate that Pramesh confronted Nagamani on Raipole-Manyaguda road, intentionally colliding with her motorcycle before attacking her with a hunting sickle. Bystanders alerted the authorities, and police found Nagamani’s body at the scene with serious injuries to her face and neck.

Originally from Raipole village, Nagamani was a constable from the 2020 batch who had visited her village the day before. Following her murder, her body was transferred to Osmania General Hospital for an autopsy while police collected evidence.

Initial investigations suggest that her brother was motivated by discontent over her inter-caste marriage. Nagamani had been previously married but had divorced about ten months ago before marrying a man named Srikant in a love marriage on November 1 at Yadagirigutta temple.

The police have registered a murder case at Ibrahimpatnam Police Station and are exploring various possibilities, including potential property disputes between the siblings. They plan to interview Nagamani’s husband, Srikant, for more insights into the case while they search for Pramesh, who remains at large.
