The anticipation for Squid Game Series 2 reached fever pitch as fans finally experienced the eagerly awaited continuation of the groundbreaking series after a three-year hiatus. Released on 26 December 2024, Series 2 reintroduced the intense challenges and deadly games that catapulted the show to global acclaim. However, fans need not endure another lengthy wait, as Netflix has already teased Series 3 with the release of its first poster, confirming a 2025 debut.

The teaser poster immediately grabbed attention, not for the return of familiar characters like Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) or the enigmatic Front Man, but for the inclusion of Young-hee from the Red Light-Green Light game. The notorious motion-sensor doll, infamous for ruthlessly eliminating players in Series 1 and 2, is now joined by her male counterpart, Cheol-su. First seen in a mid-credits scene in Series 2, Cheol-su appears in the new poster dressed in the players’ uniform.

The accompanying caption read:
“Yeonghee and Cheol-su. The game of hearts never ends. Squid Game Series 3, released in 2025. Only on Netflix.”

Series 2 saw the return of Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun, who re-entered the perilous games to uncover the masterminds behind them and bring an end to their brutal operation. Lee Byung-hun’s Front Man shocked audiences by returning not as an overseer, but as a contestant, donning the number 001. The tense dynamic between Gi-hun and the Front Man escalated dramatically, culminating in a major cliffhanger that left viewers clamouring for more. Creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk has hinted that the rivalry between the two characters will intensify in Series 3.

In addition to its returning cast, Series 2 introduced a host of new faces, including Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an.

Netflix also revealed that Series 2 smashed records, amassing 68 million views in its first week, surpassing the previous record set by Wednesday with 50.1 million views.

The original Squid Game, which premiered in 2021, remains Netflix’s most popular series ever, earning widespread acclaim and securing three Golden Globe Awards alongside 14 Emmy nominations, of which it won six.

With Series 3 slated for release later this year, fans are bracing for yet another thrilling chapter in the deadly and suspenseful saga.
