Mumbai: The romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam (2016) is set to make a grand return to cinemas nearly a decade after its initial release. Starring Harshvardhan Rane and Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane, the film originally struggled at the box office but has since gained a cult following. Ahead of its re-release on 7th February 2025, the film has witnessed an exceptional response in advance bookings, selling 20,000 tickets in leading national cinema chains within just 12 hours. This surge in interest suggests that the film could perform significantly better this time, with opening-day earnings projected to surpass Rs 2 crore—double its original first-day earnings of Rs 1 crore.
Co-directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, Sanam Teri Kasam is expected to attract large audiences, driven by its strong fan base and word-of-mouth appreciation. The film will face competition at the box office from Badass Ravi Kumar and Loveyapa, as well as the Hindi-dubbed re-release of Interstellar. The success of Sanam Teri Kasam in its second theatrical run could mirror that of classic tragic romances like Laila Majnu, which initially struggled in cinemas but flourished upon re-release. Fans who first discovered the film on streaming platforms are now keen to experience the tragic love story of Inder and Saru on the big screen.
Beyond its emotionally charged narrative, the film is celebrated for the on-screen chemistry between its lead actors and its memorable soundtrack, composed by Himesh Reshammiya. Songs such as Kheech Meri Photo and Tera Chehra continue to resonate with audiences, particularly younger viewers. If its re-release is met with an enthusiastic reception, it could redefine the film’s legacy in Indian cinema.
