Kolkata: A significant explosion early Monday morning at Khayertala village under the Sagarapara Police Station in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district left at least three people dead and multiple others injured.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion originated from a large stockpile of raw materials used for making crude bombs housed in a building. The blast was so powerful that it completely blew off the roof of the room where the materials were stored.
When local police arrived at the scene, they discovered the victims’ bodies amid the debris, with some parts severely dismembered due to the explosion. The deceased have been identified as Mustakin Sheikh, Sagirul Sarkar, and Mamun Mollah, and their bodies have been sent for autopsy.
The police have begun an investigation into the incident. The political affiliations of the victims have not yet been disclosed. Family members of the deceased have disputed claims that the explosion was due to stored bomb materials, asserting instead that the victims were attacked by unknown assailants using crude bombs. However, district police sources have suggested that the nature of the explosion indicates it was unlikely to be a simple bombing attack.
In response to the explosion, a large police presence is conducting thorough searches in the area to discover any additional raw materials for crude bomb manufacturing. Authorities are also pursuing leads to apprehend those involved in stockpiling such materials.
