New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate several significant development initiatives today, including 1,675 flats for residents of JJ clusters and two urban redevelopment projects in Delhi.
In a message on X, PM Modi emphasized the importance of the day for the city’s development. He stated, “Today is an important day for Delhi’s development. At a program in Ashok Vihar, I will be inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for various projects aimed at enhancing the ‘Ease of Living’ for the people of Delhi.”
He added that these initiatives are designed to empower future generations through knowledge, innovation, and opportunities in a conducive environment for growth and learning. The projects include a modern academic block at the Eastern Campus in Surajmal Vihar and another at the Western Campus in Dwarka, as well as the foundation for Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh, which aims to provide top-notch educational facilities.
According to a government press release, these measures align with the PM’s commitment to ‘Housing for All.’ PM Modi will visit the newly constructed flats for residents of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project at Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar around 12:10 p.m. Following this, at approximately 12:45 p.m., he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects in Delhi.
The Prime Minister will officially open the 1,675 new flats for JJ cluster residents and distribute keys to eligible beneficiaries at Swabhiman Apartments. This event marks the successful completion of the second In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), aimed at providing a healthier living environment with essential amenities.
For every Rs 25 lakh spent on constructing a flat, beneficiaries contribute less than 7 percent of the total cost, which includes a nominal fee of Rs 1.42 lakh and Rs 30,000 for five years of maintenance.
Additionally, PM Modi will inaugurate two urban redevelopment projects: the World Trade Centre (WTC) at Nauroji Nagar and the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar. The WTC project has replaced over 600 old quarters with modern commercial towers, offering around 34 lakh square feet of premium space, featuring green building practices such as solar energy generation and rainwater harvesting.
The GPRA Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar consist of 28 towers with over 2,500 residential units, equipped with modern amenities and eco-friendly features, including rainwater harvesting and sewage treatment systems.
Moreover, PM Modi will inaugurate the CBSE’s Integrated Office Complex in Dwarka, built at a cost of around Rs 300 crore, which includes offices, an auditorium, and an advanced data center, all constructed to high environmental standards.
Finally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for three new projects at Delhi University, worth over Rs 600 crore, which includes the Eastern Campus in Surajmal Vihar, the Western Campus in Dwarka, and the Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh, featuring state-of-the-art educational facilities.
