Ludhiana: Commuters passing through Punjab’s most expensive toll plaza, Ladowal, will soon feel a greater financial burden, as the toll rates are set to increase once again. The new toll charges will come into effect from April 1, 2025, marking another rise in rates at the busy plaza.
The increased toll rates will vary depending on the type of vehicle. Light vehicle such as car, van, jeeps will see a hike of Rs. 15, while light commercial vehicles will face Rs. 25 increase. Commercial vehicles, including buses and trucks (2XL), will experience a Rs. 45 increase in toll charges. Construction machinery and multi-XL vehicles will face the highest rise, with rates increasingby Rs. 65 to Rs. 75.
Toll manager Manoj said that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) increases the rates every year. To ensure that drivers do not have any confusion regarding the new rates, the new rate list is being displayed at the toll booths. Every kind of help is available at the toll booths for the convenience of the people.
People say that the prices at toll plazas are increased every year, but the government is unable to provide facilities to people in transportation. People still have to get stuck in traffic jams on highways for hours many times .
At many places, the roads are broken. Sometimes if there is an accident on the road, the patrolling vehicle does not reach on time. Many times, even ambulances are not found standing at the toll plazas. There are many toll plazas where if there is a small argument with the drivers on any matter, the toll workers are ready to beat them up.
NHAI officials should conduct surprise inspections at toll plazas from time to time to reduce the problems faced by drivers.
