New Delhi: The Vande Bharat sleeper train has achieved a peak speed of 180 km/h during its trials over the past three days, according to the Ministry of Railways. The trials will continue until the end of the month, aiming to introduce this advanced long-distance travel option to Indian rail commuters soon.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of a successful trial in Kota Division on X, where the train reached the peak speed of 180 km/h. The video shows a full glass of water on a flat surface inside the train, remaining steady as the train maintained its top speed.

These trials, which concluded on January 2, included runs in various sections of Rajasthan. On January 2, the train reached 180 km/h during a 30-km trial between Kota and Laban in Bundi district, while earlier in the week, the train achieved the same speed on a 40-km stretch between Rohal Khurd and Kota. The trials also saw speeds of 170 km/h and 160 km/h on other routes.

Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that these advancements are set to provide passengers with faster and safer travel. Once the trials are complete, the Railway Safety Commissioner will evaluate the Vande Bharat sleeper train at its maximum speed. Following successful certification, the trains will be inducted into regular service.

Currently, 136 Vande Bharat trains operate on medium and short-distance routes, offering passengers a world-class travel experience with reclining seats.
